This will be the 4th year in a row that the World Press Photo comes to Barcelona, in cooperation with the CCCB (Centro de Cultura Catalana de Barcelona).

The Photographic Social Vision Foundation, based in Amsterdam, each year organises one of the most prestigious contest in the world, where an international jury made of 13 members selects the best photos among all the ones sent by photo-journalists, agencies, newspapers and photographers. The material sent needs to be in one of the following 11 categories: Spot News, General News, People in the News, Sports in Action, Sports Features, Contemporary Issues, Daily life, Portraits, Arts and Entertainment, Nature.
After the contest, the winning photographs are shown in an itinerant exhibition through 80 different cities and about 40 different countries. The idea of the event is to demonstrate the power of photography to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers.

5019 photographers took part of this year contest and 5 Spanish ones got awarded.
The 1st prize got to the British Tim Hetherington’s job, which shows an American soldier having a rest in a bunker in Afghanistan, on the 16th of September. What appeared really touching of this picture is that it seems showing this man tiredness, as well as the feeling of an entire country.
