Our Barcelona Hostel informs you about some of the activities taking place this weekend in Barcelona. Saturday 11 it's the national catalan holiday .... if you wanted to go shopping, forget it, all shops will be closed. However, within the framework of the catalan holiday celebrations and at the Parc de la Ciutadella, one of the most beautiful parks in the city of Barcelona, several events will take place ... for free! Perfect for Barcelona Backpackers  staying at our Hostel in Barcelona!

From 7:30PM hours on Saturday 11, some open air live concerts: Hip Hop and jazz in the early hours, after that, the performance of Els Pets, a mythical Rock-pop catalan band. Finally, the performance of the Group of the Year in Catalunya, Els Friends of the Arts.

On the other hand, at the Parc de la Ciutadella too, you'll find another event taking place:  the week of the book in Catalan, starting today. All activities are in Catalan, but probably you'll find something interesting: discussions, cocktail parties, theater and movies, outdoors and free. And besides all the activities, of course, you can dive among the 30,000 books that are expected to be offered for sale ... who knows if you'll find some interesting book and you decide to buy it.

On the other hand, if you are at our Hostel in Barcelona this weekend and you are interested in politics, the Palau del Parlament de Catalunya, home to the Catalan Parliament, is helding its Open Day: on Sept. 11 and 12, from 10 am to 7 pm, free of charge, you can visit the main areas of the Palace, both the Parliament Chamber and the Committee Rooms, the Salon de los Pasos Perdidos (the hall of lost steps) and even the offices of the Parliament and the Generalitat Presidents.

How to reach the Parc de la Ciutadella from our Hostel in Barcelona:

Take the C1 train line from the renfe station The Clot / Arago, at a 5 minutes walking distance from our Barcelona Hostel, and after one stop,  get off  Arc de Triomf. From there, you'll see the Parc de la Ciutadella, at 150 meters.

La Tomatina - Barcelona Urbany Hostel takes you there!

Because some things happen once in a lifetime, maybe you won’t have another chance. The Tomatina is the craziest spanish fiesta, the biggest tomato fight in the world. It will be held on August, 25th, and Barcelona Urbany Hostel will take you there on a day-trip. It is a festival quite simply crazy. Each year, on the last Wednesday of August, thousands of partygoers plunge themselves in a tradition that has lasted for 64 years. Pepople come from everywhere, foreign tourists and spanish people from other cities meet on Bunyol, a little Valencia village, just to feel and live through one of the best festivities in the world!

The Tomatina is a tomato fight where a crowd of about 30.000 people gather in the main square village to throw each other tons and tons of tomatoes. What does it take to celebrate the Tomatina? ... a lot of tomatoes, many people and being eager to have lots of fun!

What’s the point? you may wonder… Who cares! Suspend reason and good sense and just throw yourself into the orgiastic, tomato melee! Get involved!
The Tomatina rules? It is absolutely forbidden to bring or throw bottles or other objects that could hurt other people. You must not tear t-shirts. Crush your tomatoes before throwing them. At the sound of the 2nd banger you must stop throwing tomatoes. And that’s it!!

The Festes de Gracia: events, music & fun for those who stay at our Hostel in Barcelona

Tomorrow it will start the big party of the Gracia Quarter in Barcelona, the "Festes de Gràcia". Come to best Hostel in Barcelona, the Barcelona Urbany, and enjoy one of the most popular and entertaining events that are held in the city. Tonight in Barcelona: The European Athletics opening ceremony.

Are you staying tonight at our Youth Hostel in Barcelona? From here we recommend you a great event that is going to be held tonight in the city ... And it's free! Perfect for Barcelona Backpackers.

Tonight we'll have the chance of enjoying the opening ceremony of the European Athletics Championship Barcelona 2010. It's going to be an exceptional event for 90 minutes led by one of the founders of La Fura dels Baus, whose shows we've always admired in our Youth Hostel in Barcelona. The ceremony promises to be a great event, a special performance, attractive and innovative with water as the central axis, accompanied by music specially composed for the occasion, dance and acrobatics. There will also be held a big parade with all the athletes.

The event takes place on the Avenida Maria Cristina, next to Pça. Espanya, the Magic Fountain of Montjuic central axis. It stats at 10:00 pm. The ceremony can be followed by four giant screens installed along Avenida María Cristina, and when finished, will host a concert by the group La Troba Kung-Fu, in the Plaza de l'Univers ... And best of all, it is completely free, great for Barcelona Backpackers tonight staying at our youth hostel in Barcelona!

How to get there from our Youth Hostel in Barcelona?
Take the Metro the fastest option. The station is at 5 a minutes walking distance from our Youth Hostel in Barcelona.
Take the metro line L1-FONDO / HOSPITAL  de BELLVITGE at the Clot Station and get off after 9 stops, at ESPANYA low. It will take 12 minutes to arrive.
